Bank of Bermuda rolls out new information system
The Bank of Bermuda will begin offering a unique global banking service to corporate and high net worth clients this month. The new global banking service -- Bankline II -- has been built using middleware and PC banking solutions from UK-based Deluxe Data International Ltd.
Bankline II -- which went live in August to account managers -- was designed with the specific banking requirements of a global, highly sophisticated corporate customer base in mind.
The system provides bank customers with the ability to view balance and transaction information on cash and non-cash accounts, including stock holdings.
It gives them a consolidated, up-to-the-minute view of their position in the currency of their choosing. It can also be used to make cross-currency domestic and international payments.
Transactions performed on the system can be multi-credit, future-dated and authorised using a variety of mechanisms.
Customers have the ability to initiate foreign currency dealing themselves.
They can also view graphical and pictorial bank information on screen.
A key benefit to the bank's customers is improved availability of account information through the bank's account managers.
Bankline II makes it easier for account managers to access a consolidated overview of the accounts held by a customer.
Customers can liaise with their account manager to check their current position and perform any of the above functions on their accounts.
The bank's senior project manager Judy Readwin said: "Our principal specification was for a system which would provide our customers with a globally consistent image of the bank, regardless of their location or time zone.
"We also required maximum flexibility, as Bankline II had to be able to draw data from multiple host systems, the combination of which can change.
"It was vital to the bank to get this system right, so we conducted a world-wide search for a supplier.
"We have worked in close partnership with Deluxe Data to produce an exciting answer to the needs of our employees and customers.'' Deluxe Architect product manager Andy Roe said: "Bankline II is used by the Bank of Bermuda to provide a world-class, all-round service to its customers.
"It is unusual in that it is a total banking solution for customers, wherever they are situated in the world. Many financial systems of this type are location-specific.
"A complex and highly configurable administration system was created in order to manage the wide range of access and usage requirements, making this the most extensive system Deluxe Data has ever produced.
"We had to learn how to deal with unique problems created by global usage, when someone, somewhere is likely to be on the system at any given time. It was technically a very challenging project.'' Bankline II is a Windows-based PC banking system, based on the Deluxe Architect Open Delivery Manager (ODM). It uses a three-tier client/server design.
Bankline II customers connect to the server using a dial-up connection to the Bank's network.
It acts as an independent delivery environment, allowing multiple devices to be supported by common server applications.
