International Business Week in September.

The theme for the week beginning September 19 is One Island -- A World of Opportunity .

BIBA's local marketing committee began the annual promotion four years ago to maximise the community's understanding of how important the international business sector is to the Island's other industries, a spokeswoman said.

She said this year the promotion would encompass activities "to reach out to the entire community'' including outreach presentations, Harbour Nights sponsorship, radio quizzes and TV spots.

It would provide Bermudians with information and a better understanding of international business, and how to participate in the industry.

"It's all about raising the community's level of awareness of international business and its positive impact on the local community,'' she explained.

"All our jobs are somehow linked to international business, including those who work in the tourism industry.

"Whether it's a taxi driver picking up businessmen from the airport or the construction worker working on the LOM Building, everyone's livelihood depends on international business whether they like it or not.

"We're trying to underline that link for everyone whether they are someone who waters plants in the foyers of buildings or a courier delivering documents for clients including international businesses.

"One of the highlights of the week will be the Harbour Nights event on the Wednesday night which will carry the specific theme International Business and Tourism -- Transporting Us Into the Next Century ,'' she said.

This would stress the link between Bermuda's two major industries with local entertainment, interactive prize-winning activities and special displays.

Those interested in entering the sector can find out what sort of skill sets are necessary to rise to lofty career heights.

The chairman of BIBA's marketing committee, Dueane Dill, described the success of International Business Week last year as an "overwhelming success''.

And this year the week will have a different flavour targeting young people on the Island.

"A lot of the events for the week are aimed toward Bermuda's youth and preparing them to enter the industry and be successful,'' he said. "Because of this, we invite the entire community to be involved.
