BSE denies Bermudian relocation
financial centre on the site of the Bermudiana hotel, according to Exchange chairman Mr. Bill Dolan.
The developers of the Bermudiana site had marked a location on architect's plans depicting the financial centre in which to house the Bermuda Stock Exchange and said a possible change of location was being discussed with exchange officials.
"Neither I nor the Exchange council have been in discussion with Bermuda Financial Centre Limited,'' said Mr. Dolan. "I would not like to think investors are being induced to invest thinking that the Bermuda Stock Exchange would be there.
"It is not factual information,'' he said.
Mr. Jeff Conyers, president of First Bermuda Securities, and one of BFCL's financial advisers said he though the proposed financial centre would be a "great spot for the Exchange''.
He agreed there had been no discussion with Mr. Dolan or the Exchange council.
Yesterday there was said to be public demand for 150 public offering prospectuses on the eve of the offering's deadline.
"I want to see as many Bermudians involved in this project as possible,'' said Mr. Conyers.
"This is a unique opportunity for Bermuda as the centre represents the twin pillars of Bermuda, international business and tourism,'' he said.
BIG BUILDING -- The above is a bird's eye view of what the Bermuda Financial Centre proposed for the Bermudiana hotel site in Hamilton would look like. The $130 million complex would include a first class hotel, office and retail space and a convention centre.
