BTC offers new connections

ERROR RG P13 27.3.2000 Correction BTC Mobility's Automatic Seamless Roaming Service will allow their local wireless customers to use their phones in 500 cities and towns across North America, not 5,000 as reported in Friday's paper.

BTC customers can now use their wireless phones in more than 5,000 cities and towns across North America without making arrangements for activation.

And visitors to the Island will be able to use their wireless phones here thanks to BTC Mobility's Automatic Seamless Roaming Service which was unveiled yesterday.

"We are happy to continue to meet the communication demands of our local customers and tourists,'' said BTC President and Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Lyle.

"We are also excited about the partnerships we have entered into to make two-way roaming a reality.'' These partners include Western Canada's largest information technology services provider ISM BC and one of the world's largest wireless technology providers GTE TSI.

GTE TSI President Terry Lewis added: "With its state-of-the-art network and this alignment with GTE TSI, BTC has all the tools necessary to support seamless, worldwide roaming.

"We are excited about the opportunity to work with the BTC group and are committed to making their vision for enhanced communications a reality.'' The number of places where BTC customers can use their wireless phones is set to expand, noted Ms Lyle. BTC Mobility Product manager Firoz Kassam said a booklet was now available for wireless phone users on the road which gave them listings of access numbers plus a how-to-use guide for the phone's different features.

Those features including caller ID and call forwarding can be used when roaming. Calls are charged a fixed roaming rate of $1.50 per minute plus local long distance charges.
