Candle painting with Tracy
candles.
New from DecoArt is a Candle Painting Medium that allows acrylic paint to adhere to candles, is easy to use and non-toxic.
You can easily paint and design candles any way you like but to paint a candle with flowers you will need: a candle, DecoArt Candle Painting Medium, acrylic paint (here I used orange, rust and forest green), small paint brush, small spouncer, plastic plate (or something to mix paint on), water, paper towel.
To begin, first make sure your candle (bought or handmade) is clean and dry.
Mix equal parts of the candle medium with orange acrylic paint on plate. Try to mix a little at a time so you are not wasting your paint, you can always mix more.
Using the spouncer, dab in paint then on plate to eliminate excess paint. Dab on candle three at a time to make flower pattern. As you are moving the candle around be careful you do not put your fingers on an already painted area.
You do not have to wait for the paint to dry so go ahead and mix the candle medium with rust on your plate and dab with your brush to make the inside of flowers and the dots.
Again mix the candle medium equally with the forest green and using your brush (once you have cleaned it) paint on your leaves.
Once you are finished make sure you wash your tools well under water.
Finally, after letting the paint completely dry (about a day) light your candle, sit back and enjoy. The paint will melt with the candle and will not be toxic in any environment.
