A local Brewster Academy graduate will be returning to his alma mater, but on the other side of the desk.

Gerry Swan, Jr. was offered a position at Brewster teaching mathematics and coaching. He will also act as a dorm parent.

Mr. Swan is a recent graduate of Clemson University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Before beginning his teaching career, Mr. Swan will attend a seven-week teaching and learning training programme at Brewster.

Brewster, located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, has graduated more than 100 Bermudian students during the past 20 years.

The well-established bond between Bermuda and Brewster was strengthened in 1995 when Brewster staff conducted a conference at the Bermuda College.

The conference introduced the Brewster Model for student-centred learning.

POLICE ARREST MAN CRM Police arrest man Police have arrested a 33-year-old Warwick man in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a female Canadian visitor.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning reported that the incident allegedly occurred last Monday after the 23-year-old visitor from Hamilton, Ontario spent the day with the accused.

The man had befriended the woman after she had lost her way trying to find a gas station.

He then took the woman around in his car visiting various friends and relatives.

When they were travelling along South Road, Smith's Parish, around 12.30 a.m.

the man allegedly made sexual advances toward the visitor.

The woman told Police she resisted, but the man pulled off the main road in the area of Spittal Pond and attempted to sexually assault her.

MAIL SERVICE STUDIED GVT Mail service studied Bermuda should be able to look forward to better mail service between the Island and the US.

Postmaster General Clevelyn Crichlow and three other representatives of the local post office met with US Postal Service manager Mike Nappi recently in New York to develop strategies for improving mail service between Bermuda, the Caribbean, and the US.

The focus of the meetings included air transportation, customs clearance, and customer inquiries, Mr. Crichlow said.

The participating representatives developed a plan to improve the service stream and pinpoint potential bottlenecks.

NEW LOOK FOR CONCERT ENT New look for concert Local concert promoters Great Sound Productions will not hold their annual soca concert in Dockyard on the eve of Cup Match this year.

A spokesman for the company said the organisation wanted to do "something a little different'' this year following the poor turnouts at the event over the past few years.

"We are pursuing several other options at the moment but we don't have any artists booked at this time,'' he said.

He added that the artists would not be soca performers either as there were only a limited number of artists in this field to draw from and there were a number of shows lined up for the Island already this year.

MAN HURT IN ACCIDENT AC Man hurt in accident A 32-year-old St. George's man sustained a broken collar bone and cuts and abrasions after a road traffic accident on Wednesday evening.

Police said the man, who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle, apparently took action to avoid a car which was entering the airport roundabout.

The rider lost control and fell into the road while the offending vehicle left the scene.
