Belco managing director Mr. Alf Oughton said demand had been hit especially badly by the reduced number of visitors to the Island, the closure of major hotels and the implementation of energy management.

Consumption of electricity by demand customers -- hotels and major businesses -- was down 5.29 percent for the period, he said. This was somewhat offset by a 7.1 percent increase in consumption by residential customers.

Mr. Oughton added: "Demand for electricity by our newest customer, the United States Naval Air Station, showed a decline of 9.5 percent compared with the same four months in 1991. This is due to a combination of energy management conservation and a curtailment of certain base operations.'' Belco's net earnings were up over the period while operating expenses declined.

WRIT AGAINST EX-TENANT FILED CTS Writ against ex-tenant filed Eve Properties Ltd. yesterday filed a Supreme Court writ against its former tenant Business Systems Ltd.

A spokesman from lawyers Smith, Barnard & Diel, representing Eve Properties, would not comment on the suit.

Computer dealer Business Systems Ltd., now located in Richmond House on Par-la-Ville Road, Hamilton, is a former tenant of the Russell Eve Building, which is owned by Eve Properties Ltd.
