Entrepreneur has plans to cut into mayonnaise pie
mayonnaise with his new salad dressing.
Mr. Jeffrey Marson, a chef by trade, started working on perfecting his Caesar salad dressing -- Dismont's Finest -- about five years ago.
He recently returned to Bermuda from Toronto where he worked in the food service industry. Before leaving he signed a contract with a Canadian distribution marketing company, Viking Foods, giving that firm the distribution rights to North America.
The dressing, with the Island on the bottle's label, is made by Select Foods, a Canadian company that prepares President's Choice dressings, according Mr.
Marson.
Mr. Marson, son of the late Ms Jacqueline Dismont, said four of the Island's food stores have agreed to carry the product including; Lindo's Market Ltd., Giant Foods the Supermart Ltd., and Dismont Robinson & Co. Ltd. The late Mr.
Roy Dismont, former manager/owner of the store, was Mr. Marson's uncle.
"Not only is Dismont's Finest a salad dressing it is also the ultimate mayonnaise. People who use this as an alternative to mayonnaise will be pleasantly surprised,'' he said.
The gourmet dressing has no MSG or preservatives and requires refrigeration.
Mr. Marson, who owned his own restaurant, the Cafe on the Park, in Toronto, said he sold 1,700 bottles of the product through an Italian gourmet food store in that city.
At the last Canadian National Exhibition he served over 15,000 people a taste of the dressing at that event's Good Food Festival. His efforts there resulted in sales of more than 1,200 bottles and about 30 four litre containers of the dressing.
Mr. Marson is currently planning demonstrations of the product in local food stores and the dressing should be in Island stores some time next week. Next year, he plans to introduce an Italian dressing. And he hopes to attach a recipe book to the bottles in future.
ALL NATURAL -- Shoppers will soon be able to sample a new salad dressing created by Mr. Jeffrey Marson.
