Fedex opens new warehouse

The facility has its own customs officers, which the company claims, will make delivery of parcels much faster.

The 13,000-foot warehouse is on the site of the old Staples Warehouse on Serpentine Road.

Packages now no longer have to be cleared at the airport, but are taken from the plane into a sealed van, before being inspected by customs officers in Pembroke.

"Our new Bermuda facility is a testament to the company's commitment to service,'' said Juan Cento, president of FedEx Express Latin America and Caribbean Division, who was in Bermuda for the opening.

"FedEx Express is meeting the needs and demands of our customers in Bermuda by investing in innovative strategic solutions like this new bonded warehouse and larger station.'' As a result of moving to new headquarters, drop off times for outgoing parcels is later and turn around times in Bermuda quicker.

"Our bonded warehouse raises the level of shipping standards to an all-new level within the express transportation industry in Bermuda and FedEx Express is proud to lead the way,'' said Julio Colombia, vice president of South America and the Caribbean Region for FedEx Express Latin America and Caribbean Division, who was also in Bermuda for the opening.

"This new facility will allow for improved door-to-door service for time-definite and high-value goods.'' Up and running: The FedEx headquarters were officially opened yesterday with a presentation to the media of the new offices.
