Florida homes given Bermudian flavour
appeal to American and international buyers.
The "Orlando Sun Village'' in Kissimmee, Florida, features Hamilton, Somerset and Gibbs Hill Villages.
"The project comprises of a beautifully landscaped, secure gated community of 330 homes in a Bermudan (sic) architectural style in four villages,'' reads a promotional brochure from developers Citiprop Realty.
"Burgess Point'' and "St. George's Court'' lend further Bermudian flavour to the development project.
Local representative Wendell Pond described the project as a unique investment opportunity which differed from traditional time-sharing schemes or real estate purchases.
Citiprop Realty works with a rental management company Sterling Vacation Realty to "arrange renters and manage every aspect of the property for the owner to earn income'', according to the group's literature.
Building began about 18 months ago and the final phase of the project, "Harman's Village'', is now underway. It is expected to be completed within two years.
Citicorp's president and chairman Roger Smee admitted the cost of mimicking Bermudian concrete building techniques in the US was expensive. But he said he believed the finished product and added authenticity was worthwhile.
The decision to copy Bermudian style was easy, he stressed.
"We sat down with the architect and looked at a variety of different styles,'' explained Mr. Smee. "We loved the pastel colours and white concrete roofs.'' Buyers from as far away as Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia have been "very intrigued'' by the unique townhouses, Mr. Smee added.
With the familiar look and hotel amenities, Mr. Pond said the homes would be perfect for Bermudians looking for a "home away from home''.
"This is a place where Bermudians can feel comfortable,'' he said.
