Gillett moves to ACE

moving on to greener pastures in the wake of the merger between Marsh & McLennan and Johnson & Higgins.

The merger created the world's largest insurance broker and Bermuda's largest manager of captive insurers.

Roger Gillett, who was principal and senior vice president of Johnson & Higgins' captive management operations worldwide, will join Bermuda-based A.C.E. Insurance Co. Ltd. in a newly created post of senior vice president, business development.

Mr. Gillett begins his new challenge on November 3, focusing on new opportunities arising out of ACE's strategic expansion on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Brian Duperreault, chairman, president and CEO of ACE Insurance parent, ACE Ltd., said Mr. Gillett's appointment was a natural progression for the insurer, given the growth and diversification that has been the focus of much of ACE's activity for the past year.

Mr. Duperreault said, "With our recently proposed acquisition of the US-based Westchester Specialty Group and the opening of an office in Dublin, our plan for global diversification is being well-realised.

"However, we are fully committed to the further development of our insurance operations in Bermuda and have full confidence in Roger to provide the oversight necessary to guide the development of ACE Insurance's product line.'' Dominic Frederico, president of ACE Ltd. subsidiary, A.C.E. Insurance, said, "A.C.E. has an unparalleled product line, one that continues to expand in an extremely challenging market.

"We will be going from strength to strength with Roger's addition to our team, given his years of experience in the insurance business, particularly in the area of business development, his network of contacts in the insurance market and the great respect that he commands in the industry.'' Mr. Gillett began his Bermuda market career of 20 years at Inter-Ocean Management with Bryan Hall. Both moved to Johnson & Higgins (J&H) after the 1979 Inter-Ocean merger with Johnson & Higgins (Bermuda).

Mr. Hall moved on after this year's J&H merger with "Marsh Mac'', although he remains chairman of the Insurance Advisory Committee (IAC), the body that advises government on insurance policy.

Mr. Gillett is chairman of the IAC's marketing committee. He has served previously as president of the Bermuda Insurance Managers Association and the Bermuda Insurance Institute. Mr. Gillett is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and an associate in risk management under the Insurance of America programme.
