Global Crossing in major deal
Atlantic telecommunications network.
Level 3 Communications has signed a $100-million agreement to use the Atlantic system for the company's Internet network connecting customers between the US and Europe.
"Level 3 realised early the ever-increasing need for capacity across the Atlantic to the top telecommunications markets in Europe,'' Global Crossing senior vice president Barry Porter stated in a press release. "The demand for bandwidth on this route continues to expand, reflecting the growth of the Internet in Europe, multi-national Intranets and e-commerce.'' Global Crossing's Atlantic system, linking the US with the UK, went into service in May as the first segment of the company's network. The connection to Europe is expected to be activated next month.
