BHB chairman Raymonde Dill could not be contacted for comment last night. But it is believed the appointment will be announced at a press conference on Monday.

Last week, The Royal Gazette reported that Immigration policy banning Bermudian firms from recruiting single parents from overseas was hampering the Board's attempts to hire the woman who is a single mother of two.

Chief Immigration Officer Martin Brewer said: "Single parents are not allowed to be recruited from abroad.'' He added that work permits would not be issued to overseas couples with more than two children.

Mr. Dill said last week that he was not aware of any Immigration policy which would hamper the process.

The appointment of the Jamaican single mother seems to suggest that the Immigration policy has been changed, or that a special exception has been made for this appointment.

The BHB has come under fire from Opposition MP Kim Young for failing to find a new replacement for Bermudian CEO Sheila Manderson, who stepped down in July, despite knowing about her departure for more than a year.

In July, the BHB announced that a new CEO would be in place by September, but the appointment fell through when the Board discovered that first-choice candidate Canadian Wayne Keddy faced allegations of sexual harassment in a previous job.
