Howe Enterprising to open new designer furniture showroom

Howe Enterprising , completing its ninth year in operation, is opening a second home furnishings shop next Monday. "It is no longer necessary to travel to the USA or Europe for a comprehensive array of home furnishings to suit a variety of personal tastes and lifestyles,'' president Ruth Kempe stated.

The new shop will be located at 27 Reid Street and will offer a range of furniture from European designers including Tricia Guild, Antonio Cittero (B&B Italia of Milan) and Henri LeBecq (Modenature of Paris), as well as pieces from Indonesia and India.

In addition to sofas, armchairs, dining and occasional furniture, there will be an extensive collection of distinctive Designers Guild accessories and fabrics, including wallpaper borders and bed linens, cushions and throws, organisers and stationery.

An ever-changing selection of baskets, vases, bowls, rugs, lamps will also be displayed.

Special features include a closet shop and children's shop. The existing showroom in Bermuda House Lane will continue to operate as a design consultation centre with selected furnishings on display. The sales and office team includes Lynn Dart , Marcia White design consultant Beth MacDonald and student Ayesha Vickers . Howe Enterprising was established April 1, 1991 by Ruth and Hal Kempe and named after Mr. Kempe's grandfather Harold Howe, a designer who founded international office furniture corporation Howe Furniture in Connecticut.

Mrs. Kempe, whose cousin Alan Zoeftig is an accomplished furniture designer abroad who has been approached to supply his stylish furniture to the Bermuda Aiprort, began her career art Harrods. She is a member of the British Interior Design Association.

*** DEALER EXAM HELD HERE TANKS TO THE BSX STK Dealer exam held here thanks to the BSX The Bermuda Stock Exchange was granted approval from the NYSE and NASD to sponsor local candidates for the NASD Series 7 exam to become securities dealers, and to host this exam in Bermuda.

To mark the achievement the BSX will sponsor an intensive three-and-a-half day Series 7 training seminar May 31-June 3 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. The lecturer will be top author Alvin Hall.

"Series 7 is seen as the benchmark qualification for anyone interested in pursuing a career in international investment and finance,'' BSX corporate communications manager Joanne MacPhee said.

"Until now Bermudians interested in obtaining this qualification have had to study on their own or take an overseas course, find an accredited company willing to sponsor them and then incur the cost of travelling overseas to sit the exam.

"Now they can do it all at home! "The Exchange is dedicated to educating Bermudians about the emerging oportunities available for them in Bermuda's growing financial services sector and to improving industry standards and we believe this goes a long way to achieving both these objectives.'' *** SMALL BUSINESS INFORMATION SESSIONS HELD CON Small business information sessions held Help for small businesses will be on hand at Business Track 2000 information sessions taking place April 26 through June 7.
