HWP makes Auto parts promotions
HWP Group yesterday announced Bermudian Jay Simmons has been promoted to the post of senior manager of the parts department. He will be responsible for all the activities within the Auto parts section.
"Jay has been with us over four years in the parts department and has always taken full advantage to learn more about what is required to do the job in serving our customers,'' HWP CEO and president Jonathan Brewin said. HWP also announced that Tjerk Neijmeijer has been promoted to the post of assistant vice president, automotive after sales. He trained as an automotive engineer in the Netherlands and previously served as project engineer for Renault in France and for Volkswagen in Germany. He will assume full responsibility for the daily operations of the Automotive Service Department.
GLOBAL CROSSING NETWORK LANDS BUC Global Crossing network lands Global Crossing announced this week the landing of its network in Argentina, a critical milestone in the construction of the 18,000-kilometre South American Crossing network. The cable meets land at the Las Toninas cable station, which will be linked terrestrially with Buenos Aires, Rosario, Cordoba and Mendoza in Argentina and Santiago and Valparaiso in Chile. The system will then travel north along the continent's pacific coast, landing in Lurin, Peru, Columbia, Panama and Caracas, Venezuela.
The network will also connect Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo with a cable station in Fortaleza, Brazil and St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.
When it is completed, South American Crossing will connect major cities in South America with 200 around the world. It is estimated to carry roughly ten times the capacity of current telecommunication systems in the region.
HIGHEST RATINGS FOR LOM FUND BUC Highest ratings for LOM fund The ratings agency Standard & Poor's has assigned its highest money market rating -- triple `Am' -- to Lines Overseas Management's Money Market US dollar fund.
Ratings are based on analysis of the fund's credit quality, investment policies, market price exposure and conservative management. The rating certifies that LOM's fund has an ability to limit losses at all times.
The fund is managed by LOM Asset Management Ltd., which began the administration of money market funds three years ago. The company also manages funds denominated in Canadian dollars and the Euro.
At least 50 percent of the US dollar fund's assets is invested in securities rated `A-1 ' by Standard & Poor's, with no more than 50 percent in securities rated `A-1.' The fund is designed to provide returns similar to short-term money rates.
DURHAGER NAMED TO KEYTECH BOARD APP BUC Durhager named to KeyTech board KeyTech Limited , the parent company of Bermuda Telephone Company and Logic Communications , has appointed Logic's former CEO Peter Durhager to its Board of Directors along with former director of Tourism Gary Phillips .
The appointments were made on the retirement from the Board of Cummings Zuill and Leon Simmons. The announcements were made at KeyTech's annual general meeting held at the end of June.
KEMGAS ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE BUC Kemgas announces name change Bermuda-based Kemgas has announced it is now changing it's name to CalciTech Ltd, it was revealed yesterday. A change of name was proposed at the last shareholders annual general meeting to `more readily reflect the company's focus' on specialty minerals and in particular the production and sale of Precipitated Calcium Carbonates (PCC). Although the Kemgas mark and logo will be retained for future industrial gas developments, the principal activity for the foreseeable future will be concentrated on PCC arising out of the development of it's unique technology, according to a statement from the company.
