John E. Riihilouma will join cross-town legal rival Appleby, Spurling & Kempe
Campbell said Mr. Riihilouma would head the Litigation Department. Two other AS&K lawyers, Michael L. Jones and James M. Keyes, are also becoming new partners. It brings the firm's partnership list to 17, the largest it has ever been. Mr. Jones is a senior associate at AS&K, having joined the firm from Cox & Wilkinson last August. He specialises in commercial law and corporate finance and securities work. Mr. Keyes has been with the firm for several years and also is involved in the company and commercial arena. Mr. Campbell said that in Mr. Riihilouma and Mr. Jones, "the partnership would be acquiring individuals of considerable professional standing in the community.
And James Keyes is an example of the outstanding talent to be found in the younger ranks of the profession.'' Mr. Riihilouma will take over the litigation department from former AS&K partner Geoff Bell, who has served in a caretaker role since the departure from the firm of Alan Dunch. Mr. Bell, senior counsel at the firm, resumed the leadership of the litigation department on a temporary basis when Mr. Dunch left for Mello, Hollis, Jones & Martin last March. Mr. Campbell said that the firm had become stronger last year and he was looking forward to another successful year in 1997. He said, "Over the last nine months the partners have been extremely focused in a specific direction. Obviously, the departure of Alan (Dunch), David (Doyle) and Jay (Kempe) gave rise to speculation and may have created some ripples inside and outside the firm. "The firm is strong and stable with staff who are committed and dedicated to professionalism. I believe that we have performed throughout 1996 and we feel extremely positive and bullish about 1997, going forward. By our deeds, you shall know us.'' The firm employs 220 people in Bermuda and 20 more in Hong Kong. The total includes some 40 lawyers. PHOTO WELCOMING NEW EXPERTISE -- AS&K senior partner John Campbell.
