Permanent Secretary named
Services Permanent Secretary.
And when 44-year-old Donald Scott takes up the post in June, he will be one of the youngest civil servants to hold such a position in a Government Ministry.
"I view it as an exciting opportunity to make a contribution to the Government of Bermuda,'' Mr. Scott said yesterday. "I'm looking forward to the challenge.'' After 14 years in the Statistics Department, Mr. Scott was seconded to the Finance Ministry as Acting Financial Secretary. He was officially appointed to the position in December of that year.
In that Ministry he played a key role in the development of Government's occupational pension initiative and was part of a team of high-level policy advisors in the areas of economics and finance. His administrative responsibilities included overseeing the work of five departments within the Ministry.
As Health and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Mr. Scott will be responsible for providing policy advice and professional executive services to the Minister.
His duties will include managing and coordinating the Ministry's four main departments: Health, Child and Family Services, Prisons, and Financial Services. He will also be responsible for administering the Ministry's budget which, at more than $100 million for this budget year, is the largest of any Government Ministry.
