George's is for sale -- for $1.25 million.

The Bermuda stone building was erected in 1713, replacing the original structure built in 1619.

The building has been owned by St. George's North MP Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams for more than two decades.

Mr. Williams said: "I would like to give somebody else the opportunity to operate a piece of prime property that is part of the face of St. George's.

"I feel that I'm getting on in age and I need to cut back on some of my activities because I've become so busy. My political duties have really begun to consume a lot of my time and energy.

"I ran it as a successful restaurant myself for 25 years.

"And with all of the plans going on for the revitalisation of St. George's, this property will always be right in the middle of it all.'' A writ issued last year for unpaid rent is believed to be outstanding.

The writ, seeking $54,487.50, was brought against pub operators Talley Ltd. by Mr. Williams' holding company, St. George's Enterprises.

Second defendants were listed as: Phillip John Talbot, Lori Lee Talbot, Rowland Vincent O'Malley and Norma Toscelyn O'Malley, Mr. Williams' sister, as guarantors of the company's rents.
