Rego to close furniture business

Mr. Rego, 63, said he is closing down Rego Furniture on Reid Street because none of his children want to get into the business.

"Rego Furniture is not closing due to a lack of business, quite the opposite,'' he said. "The demands on my time have never been greater. But after 44 years I think everyone will agree, it's time to think of retirement.

"Rego Furniture is Bermuda's oldest surviving furniture store and it is with much emotion and regret that I arrived at this decision.'' Mr. Rego will close the business down over a period of four months by having a series of sales. The doors will close for the last time on April 30. The store employs ten staff.

Rego Furniture began business in 1955 on Middle Road, Warwick, near where Lindo's supermarket is located.
