Showcasing int'l business to the young
Bermuda-based insurer Centre Solutions is hosting a summer student international business seminar today from noon to 2.30 p.m. at the company's new offices in the Zurich Centre at the Waterfront complex. Each summer a number of local companies employ students to expose them to opportunities available within the international business sector, giving them experience working for a particular company. However, Centre Solutions says it wants to ensure students get to learn as much about other companies in the same market, so it is sponsoring the first Combined International Business Summer Student Seminar showcasing a variety of companies including: Partner Re, Overseas Partners, Heddington, Am-Re Managers and Fidelity International.
"We believe by creating new and innovative ways of showcasing the international business environment to young people it will heighten their sense of real time business and hands-on experience otherwise unavailable to them,'' Centre Solutions CEO Paul Hellmers said. "In an increasingly global society, the participation of a number of different companies in this seminar provides a valuable and wide-reaching learning experience that is difficult to achieve in any classroom.'' *** NAAN TOO HAPPY OVER A NAME! EAT Naan too happy over a name! The names may sound alike, but they are two different restaurants owned by two different people. Opening soon upstairs in the Bermudiana Arcade is a new Indian take-out restaurant Taste of India , no relation to the House of India take-out and dine-in restaurants on North Street, Hamilton. Taste of India's owner is Sharmila Gonsalves , who also owns Memory Lane Deli on Serpentine Road. Ms Gonsalves said she plans to open Taste of India by next month in the old Music World premises. It will be serving breakfast (such as Indian pancakes and vegetarian rice cakes) as well as lunch and dinner take-out foods. The name is so similar to House of India's that owner Geraldine Uppal has had to take out a newspaper advert to clear up confusion among her clientele that she may be opening up another restaurant in Hamilton. She states in the ad that customers may have been "led to believe either via rumour or inadvertent pronouncements, that we are opening another venue in Hamilton...'' It is understood some of the confusion may lie in the fact that two chefs from House of India have left to go and work at the new Taste of India. Ms Gonsalves explained the name she chose for her restaurant was one she had actually come up with many years ago, anticipating opening an Indian restaurant one day.
