Despite winds of up to 140 mph, SKB-supplied roofs on properties in the Bahamas and Miami stayed in place, according to SKB sales manager Mr. Richard Harris.

Mr. Harris has just returned from an inspection of the two areas, which were devastated by Andrew.

In the Bahamas, SKB has roofed properties in Eleuthera, which bore the brunt of the hurricane, and Nassau, which was also severely hit.

"Of the few remaining structures to survive the storm in Eleuthera, one was a private home recently fitted with an 11,000-square-foot SKB roof,'' said Mr.

Harris.

"Despite the battering, the roof came through the ordeal completely unscathed, much to the owner's joy and relief.'' There was a similar story in nearby Nassau, he said.

"A number of Bermuda-style, SKB roofs there all survived, 100 percent intact whereas several shingle tile roofs and some `imitation' SKB roofs suffered severely,'' he added.

"Our distributor in Nassau has received several inquiries as a result of the roof's performance during the disaster.'' In Miami, both of the SKB roofs installed there during the past decade both survived undamaged, while surrounding properties were either flattened or suffered severely, he said.

SKB is one of the few Bermuda-based manufacturers to export their products.
