the shoals of corporate risk'' as the theme of its October 1997 conference.
BISA director John Sharpe anticipates the number of delegates, drawn primarily from the shipping and insurance fields, will be double that of last year's inaugural conference attended by 65 delegates.
Mr. Sharpe will be among the Bermuda contingent attending next week's Shorex offshore centre conference in London. At Shorex, BISA will host a reception.
To be held at the Sonesta Beach Hotel from October 8-10, the BISA conference will focus on identifying shipping risks, along with corporate risks and liabilities facing businesses, BISA said.
Directors & officers (D&O) cover and oil pollution issues related to the US's Oil Pollution Act are among anticipated topics.
"Developing practical solutions to managing these risks, as well as targeted strategies for conducting business, is the desired outcome,'' BISA said.
"This conference is intended to better inform the international shipping community of protection against the risks facing corporations in today's business climate,'' Mr. Sharpe said.
Navigating the Shoals of Corporate Risk will culminate with the BISA annual dinner on October 10.
Organisers are currently compiling the event's speakers.
BISA, founded in 1995, promotes Bermuda as a preferred jurisdiction for the registration of ships and the formation and operation of shipping companies.
Members include ship owners and managers, protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs, accountants, agents and legal professionals.
