AC flights stay grounded, but talks resume
around the world resumed yesterday afternoon in Montreal. But the airline will not operate between Bermuda and Canada before Friday midnight, no matter how quickly an agreement is reached.
A call placed to Air Canada's local office was handled by an answering machine and a tape recorded message which revealed that due to the ongoing labour action, flights to and from Bermuda were cancelled.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Air Canada resumed talks with its 2,100 striking pilots' yesterday.
The pilots of Canada's biggest airline have been on strike since last Wednesday in a dispute over wage demands. The strike has stranded thousands of passengers.
Reuters also reported that all flights were cancelled until midnight Friday.
Once a deal is approved by union members, the airline will be able to start domestic flights in about 24 hours and international flights shortly after that.
