Airline caterer's profits soar

million for the first six months of the financial year, a gain of 31 percent over the same period last year.

Company chairman Neville Conyers said the gain was made due to growth in the catering business and by keeping expenses under control. Revenues for the first six months were $8.4 million, about 14 percent higher than the first six months of 1997.

Expenses rose about 1.5 percent to $6.32 million. Operating income grew 26 percent to $1.44 million. The company had earnings per share of $1.29 for the six month period compared to 98 cents last year.

"The catering business held up pretty well,'' he said yesterday. "Expense growth has been kept to a minimum.'' While tourism has continued to decline, he said catering for first class and business class passengers was "relatively good''. The additional flight per week added by British Airways had also helped boost revenues.

Mr. Conyers said while the second half of the year had historically been less profitable than the first half he expected that full year results would be comparable to last year's.

As at June 30 the company had total assets of $9.85 million, a gain of about 10 percent over June 30, 1997.
