August inflation drops

In the 12-month period to August the rate was 2.4 percent compared to 2.6 percent recorded in July.

Higher prices for fresh fruit and vegetables led to the food index advancing by 0.4 percent. Oranges, apples and grapes all rose with potatoes, green peppers, cabbage and lettuce also increasing in price.

Transport and vehicles all rose as did rent, tobacco and liquor and education recreation and reading.

The main drop was in fuel and power after a fall in the price of fuel used to generate electricity.
