Bank awarded $8.23 million

A story in Thursday's paper incorrectly stated the name of the person who the Bank of Bermuda won a $8.23 million judgment against. the bank was awarded the sum in Supreme Court against Jacob J. Elkin The Bank of Bermuda was awarded about $8.23 million in the Supreme Court on February 10 in a civil suit against Jacob J. Elvin.
Reportedly Mr. Elvin did not show up in court to defend himself. The bank refused to comment on the case or whether it would be able to collect the money.
"We really cannot make any comment at this time on the grounds of client confidentiality,'' executive vice president of corporate administration Barry Shailer said yesterday.
