Stock Exchange index vaulted 41.05 points or 2.5 percent to yet another record high of 1,680.58.

The index reacted to solid advances in four issues, including the Bank of Bermuda, which closed 5.4 percent higher at $39 on a volume of 7,351.

Also up was Kentucky Fried Chicken, 75 cents or 17.6 percent higher, closing at $5 as 1,000 shares changed hands. Staples Holdings Ltd. 10% Pref. rose 3.2 percent or 25 cents to $8 on trading of 1,750. BELCO Holdings rose 50 cents or two percent on volume of 330 to $25.

Bank of Butterfield fell back 25 cents or 1.4 percent to $18 on trading of 2,800.

Advances led declines four to one as 13,231 shares traded, valued at $362,572.
