Bank shares prices jump
Stock Exchange Index up 15.14 points or 1.45 percent in active trading.
The index closed at 1,057.69 on volume of 16,856 shares and rights worth $144,990.
The Bank of Bermuda closed up 12.5 cents to close at $19 on volume of 1,000 shares while the Bank of Butterfield gained 50 cents on volume of just 126 shares to close at $12.
Commercial Bank rights were unchanged at $3.125 on volume of 1,100. (See story, Page 14) .
In other trading, Island Press eight percent preference shares jumped $1 on volume of 3,000 to close at $5 while Telco gained 25 cents to $37.25 on volume of 650 and Watlington Waterworks rose 25 cents to $5 on volume of 200.
Trading unchanged were: BF&M, $6.75 on volume of 5,880 shares, Bermuda Press, $8, 3,300; and Staples, $9.125, 1,600.
