Mr. Jeffrey A. Simon, who was the director of a plan to redevelop some 5,000 acres of property in central Massachusetts, will be deputy manager of Government's plans to redevelop four closed military bases.
Bermuda's redevelopment effort involves four separate sites comprising almost ten percent of the Island's land mass.
Government took over three of the sites in September.
Its plans -- which Finance Minister Grant Gibbons presided over -- include a diversity of development, with tourism, community uses, a technology park, a championship golf course and resort development being the main components.
In his former position as director of Fort Devens Division at the Massachusetts Government Land Bank, Mr. Simon was responsible for the development of the Fort Devens Reuse Plan, regulatory framework, finance planning and initial implementation of what will be a 40-year development covering some 5,000 acres of property in central Massachusetts.
In Bermuda, Mr. Simon will be particularly responsible for soliciting and evaluating development proposals for the former base sites.
Making the announcement, Dr. Gibbons said: "Mr. Simon represents a valuable addition to the team which has been working on issues of tremendous importance for the future of Bermuda.''
