BCL gets ready for Y2K
Given the extent to which Bermuda relies on the weekly visits of the M.V.
Oleander , it is only natural to ask how Bermuda Container Line is handling the coming calendar change and the computer challenges faced by what we have come to know as Y2K.
The risk is the potential for failure or errors in electronic devices which rely on microchips to function. Collectively referred to as the "Y2K problem'', these failures could result in problems ranging from minor inconveniences to major system shutdowns affecting commerce and industry.
The following is BCL's policy statement on the Y2K problem: Bermuda Container Line is fully committed to ensuring that there will be no interruption or compromise to its service due to the Year 2000 problem. This commitment takes shape in our internal efforts to upgrade, where necessary, all computer hardware and software, and communications equipment; to audit all automated systems on board the MV Oleander ; and externally, to encourage compliance in our vendors and agents.
It is Bermuda Container Line's goal to be fully Year 2000 compliant by September 30, 1999.
