Bermuda career track '94 proves to be a success

Chamber of Commerce Bermuda Career Track '94. The event was held at Bermuda College where 60 students were put in touch with potential employers.

Representatives of the business community were in attendance to inform students of the overall job market.

They answered questions about the actual job opportunities, the present economic state of each respective industry, interview techniques, drafting effective resumes and the range of jobs in various sectors.

Industries represented covered the whole range on the Island including hospitality, accounting, the civil service, medicine and education.

The programme has been hailed a resounding success in light of the numbers and the contacts made between students and industry leaders.

And the majority of the students involved gave the programme high marks in terms of what they had gained.

Executive Vice President of the Chamber Ms Carolyn Mello said: "We were very encouraged by the response to Career Track '94 in terms of numbers that attended and the contacts which were established between the students and industry representatives. "Students were enthusiastic about our programme, which they felt was timely and worthwhile. They really liked the fact that it was by Bermudians for Bermudians.

"All were keen to have the programme run again in the summer. Furthermore we have already received a number of responses from employers offering summer employment to the students who attended Bermuda Career Track.'' The two one-day workshops were opened by Minister of Human Affairs and Information the Hon. Jerome Dill.
