Bermuda Creamery is owned by the Gibbons Group of Companies. The Simmons family, including president Allan Simmons, owned and operated the company from its Somerset location.
Bermuda Creamery managing director Rodney Ferguson said the buyout was attractive because of the growth in demand for Simmons' sherbets. The product will eventually be manufactured at the Bermuda Creamery site in Devonshire once new equipment is put in.
"With their older equipment it was getting difficult for them to keep up with the demand,'' he said. "New equipment is expensive. It's economics. This was a good solution.''
