Bermudian appointed Assistant Accountant General

Assistant Accountant General, Government Information Services announced. He assumed his duties on September 1.

Mr. Richardson brings to the office a number of years of experience in accounting in both the public and private sectors.

He began his career in accounting in 1986 as an audit supervisor at Cooper and Lines chartered accountants and, from 1991-1994, acted a financial controller for the law firm of Trott and Duncan.

He also spent two years as a lecturer and tutor in accounting for evening students at the Bermuda College.

In 1994, Mr. Richardson joined the Accountant General's office as a management accountant and was responsible for all matters dealing with Government salaries, wages, health insurance, and pensions.

Mr. Richardson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University in Canada and has been certified as Chartered Accountant by the Atlantic School of Accountants. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Finance and Management from Webster University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda.

As one of two Assistant Accountant Generals, he will be responsible for assisting the Accountant General, Mrs. Heather Jacobs Mathews, in managing all Government finances and will be required to deputise as Accountant General as needed.

Mr. Richardson will direct the administration of all operational sections of the department, preparation of final accounts for the Consolidated Fund, and will have direct responsibility for a team of management accountants.

GAS LEAK FOUND FIR Gas leak found A gas leak at a Hamilton Parish residence required the assistance of the Fire Service.

The Redkiln Road occupants discovered a small hole in their gas tank at 9.18 p.m. on Tuesday evening, a Fire Service spokesman said.

Six firefighters attended and corrected the situation. No damage was reported.
