BIBA to take message of int'l business to schools
The Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA) will make an expanded series of presentations to the public in a bid to boost local awareness of international businesses.
Local Marketing Committee Chairman Dueane Dill said: "We want to ensure the community is aware that this programme is on-going and available, particularly for young Bermudians.'' BIBA's Local Programmes Co-ordinator Nina Jacobs added: "Our objective is to increase awareness of opportunities and encourage students to develop the skill sets needed to compete effectively in whatever career they have chosen.'' The presentations are part of BIBA's Local Awareness programme which radiates the message "it's about all of us''. And they have taken on particular importance through the recent debate on issues concerning immigration and foreign workers in Bermuda, noted Mr. Dill, as they provide Bermudians with direction on being properly equipped to perform in the industry.
The presentations will be made to schools, PTAs, school counsellors, youth groups, service clubs and other community organisations by volunteer presenters.
This team of volunteer presenters, which includes some new faces, reflects a wide spectrum of careers which are both directly and indirectly linked to international business.
They address the links between the industry and other aspects of Bermuda's economy and job market while also informing students how to prepare themselves for a career in international business.
The presenters also reflect upon their own experiences in the industry and highlight the vast opportunity available to Bermudians with the right skills.
Mr. Dill noted: "The great aspect of this programme is that Bermudians already involved in international business can give realistic descriptions of what is required to participate in the industry.
"They speak about the education and work required, as well as the benefits.'' Ms Jacobs added: "We now have some new volunteers from the information technology and e-commerce field, in addition to the traditional areas of the business.
"They are talking to students about future trends in e-business that create career opportunities in Bermuda, and the importance of being properly prepared to pursue that area if it interests you.'' BUSINESS BUC
