The company, which was founded 12 years ago by Mr. Whittle's deceased mother, Maureen, has been run by Ms Sheila Fenz for the past seven years.

After graduating from the University of Miami in December with a degree in finance and marketing, Mr. Whittle made a decision to start a career with a difference.

Rather than follow a conventional career path into Bermuda's financial sector, he has decided to exploit his marketing skills and expand the established family-owned business.

Mr. Whittle, 23, was educated at Saltus Grammar School before going to boarding schools in Massachusetts and Florida. He has represented Bermuda internationally as a tennis player.

At present, Professional Consultants has a staff of about 18. The agency wants to ensure professional standards are kept high, and staff have strong computing and word processing skills.

"Many of the exempted companies employees tend to bring families to Bermuda,'' said Mr. Whittle. "We are keen to employ qualified spouses,'' he said.

"I enjoy working with people, and particularly enjoyed the marketing aspect of my degree,'' said Mr. Whittle.

He said he was tempted to follow in the footsteps of his father, Mr.

Christopher Whittle, founder of local accountancy firm Kempe and Whittle, and become an accountant, but felt that he had always enjoyed the atmosphere at Professional Consultants, and the rewarding nature of the job.
