Continental offering summer seat sale

Fares between Bermuda and Newark for travel between May 25 and May 27 have been reduced to $99 one way and $248 and $299 plus tax for a round trip.
The fares, which are non-refundable, must be purchased in advance and minimum and maximum stay rules apply.
The sale ushers in Continental's new summer schedule which features an additional flight to Newark.
A 1:40 p.m. flight from Bermuda will supplement the existing 4:50 p.m. flight that operates daily during the winter.
"This improved schedule, we hope, will appeal to the residents and visitors alike, with connections available throughout the Continental system,'' stated a Continental Airlines release.
TOP LOCAL AUTHOR TO READ AT LUNCHTIME LIB Top local author to read at lunchtime One the Island's internationally published and recognised authors will present a series of lunchtime readings at the Bermuda College this month.
Mr. Brian Burland -- author of novels, poems, plays, children's books, short stories, and screenplays -- will read from his own works and answer questions between 12.30 and 2 p.m. on May 9, 16, 23, and 30.
The College is encouraging everyone to pack a lunch and attend. The College will supply beverages.
The readings will be free to College library members. Non-members will be required to pay $2.50.
Local performer Mr. Kingsley Swan will provide a musical interlude.
POLICE LOOKING FOR RADIO BOAT'S OWNER POL Police looking for radio boat's owner St. George's Police are trying to locate the owner of a radio-controlled boat which was found in St. George's harbour.
The boat is a twin-hulled racing speed boat and is in good condition.
Police said the owner may collect it from St. George's Police Station, after supplying a good description.
MAN SNATCHED 74-YEAR-OLD'S HANDBAG CRM Man snatched 74-year-old's handbag Police are looking for a man who snatched a handbag off the arm of a 74-year-old woman.
The woman told Police she was walking near the Empire Grocery on North Shore Road in Devonshire around 11 a.m. on Thursday morning when a man snatched her handbag from her shoulder and ran in the Glebe Road direction.
The man was about five feet, seven inches tall, slim, and he was wearing a green and beige long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone who can assist Police with the inquiry is asked to contact Central CID at 295-0011.
STUDENT HIT OVER THE HEAD WITH A BAT CRM Student hit over the head with a bat A 17-year-old student was taken to hospital after getting hit over the head with a metal baseball bat.
Police said the incident took place following an altercation with several other students on Thursday afternoon at an east end school.
The victim was treated for a head injury at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and later released.
Police inquiries into the incident were continuing.
MAN ARRESTED FOR THROWING BEER BOTTLE CRM Man arrested for throwing beer bottle Police arrested a 29-year-old Southampton man after he threw a beer bottle at a 42-year-old Devonshire woman.
The woman, who was slightly injured, told Police the incident occurred on Thursday at Front Street near Fagans Alley shortly before 6 p.m.
Police said the incident appeared to be unprovoked.
CASH STOLEN FROM UNATTENDED TAXI CAB CRM Cash stolen from unattended taxi cab Police repeated a warning to people to secure their vehicles and not leave valuable property in them when unattended.
The latest warning came after a bag and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen from an unattended taxi on Bermudiana Road on Wednesday evening.
In another break-in, a 19-year-old Paget woman told Police she awoke yesterday morning to find a male intruder standing near her.
When she screamed for help, the man ran out of the house. Nothing was stolen.
MAN DENIES WEDCO HOUSE TRESPASSING CTS Man denies Wedco house trespassing A 31-year-old Sandys man yesterday denied trespassing on a West End Development Corporation property.
Calvin Anderson pleaded not guilty to trespassing on a public place owned by Wedco and wandering abroad on April 21.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court Anderson had been evicted from the house some time prior to the incident.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis bailed Anderson at $300 and ordered a trial be set down for next month.
ADDICT ADMITS STEALING DAD'S CHEQUES CTS Addict admits stealing dad's cheques A 31-year-old man addicted to drugs and alcohol yesterday admitted stealing cheques from his father and forging them to the tune of $475.
John Smith of Windybank Farm pleaded guilty to eight charges of stealing, forging and uttering cheques between January 15 and February 22.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Smith entered his father's office twice and stole blank cheques.
He then forged his father's signature and used them to buy food and drinks at bars and restaurants and to obtain cash.
Sgt. Grant said the man's father reported the matter in the hope that something could be done for his son's drug problem. Smith has previous convictions for similar offences.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis fined Smith $200 on each of the first four counts. He ordered a social inquiry report be carried out before sentencing on the remaining counts.
