Cruise liners bring in a flood of Island visitors -- DOCKSIDERS
Bermuda saw an influx of nearly 8,000 visitors this week from cruise ships, but it was a fairly routine shipping week on other fronts with light activity being reported.
The Crown Dynasty arrived last Friday in Dockyard with 766 passengers before leaving on Monday.
Celebrity Cruise liners the Horizon and the Zenith arrived with a total of 1,569 and 1,561 passengers respectively.
Both vessels arrived on Monday. The Horizon berthed in St. George's and shifted to Hamilton yesterday morning. The vessel is expected to leave tomorrow.
The Zenith docked in Hamilton and is expected to shift to St. George's later today before departing the Island tomorrow.
The Nordic Empress arrived in Dockyard yesterday carrying 1,753 passengers and will shift to Hamilton tomorrow morning.
Agents for the ship said she is expected to leave at 1 p.m. on Friday, one hour earlier, to help in its turnaround in New York. This is the second week for this change in schedule.
The Pacific Princess also arrived in St. George's yesterday with a total of 643 passengers. The ship is expected to shift to Hamilton this morning, then to Dockyard tomorrow, before departing on Friday at noon.
The Norweigian Majesty arrived in St. George's yesterday with 1,729 passengers and is expected to leave the Island on Friday.
Container ship the Oleander arrived last Sunday morning with 122 dry containers and 35 refrigerated containers. Also on board the freighter was a 40-foot trailer and one truck.
The Bermuda Islander delivered 110 dry containers and 20 refrigerated containers.
There were two cable ships that stopped in the Island. The UK registered Cable Installer arrived last Friday, July 7 delivering cable and will leave on Friday July 14.
The Heindal arrived yesterday and will be laying cable from eastern points of the Island to Brazil.
In yachting news Harbour Radio said it was a fairly quiet week, with yachts steering clear of possible hurricane weather that might be lurking around Bermuda's offshore.
However Bermuda did have one notable caller, the 79 foot Boa Esperanca , a Portuguese-registered vessel, which stopped in Bermuda from Brazil en route back to Portugal.
