It sailed into dock at 12.55 p.m. after strong winds and rough seas forced the crew to reduce its speed on their weekly voyage from New York.

It caused sea sickness among many of the passengers, including members of the New Haven Cricket Club of Connecticut, who arrived in Bermuda yesterday ready for their overs matches with Commercial Select XIs.

However, by the time most people disembarked the ship yesterday afternoon, stomachs were settled and people were ready to enjoy their stay.

Normally, the Zenith follows its sister ship, the Horizon , into The Cut in St. George's early on Monday mornings.

Yesterday, Horizon was a little later than usual, but Zenith lagged behind.

A spokesman for the Zenith 's shipping agent, Meyer Travel, said the delays had been caused by poor weather conditions.

He said: "They hit strong winds and a bit of swell in the North Atlantic on Sunday, so they decided to reduce their speed to make the jounrey as comfortable as possible for the passengers.

" Horizon came in a little earlier, but I believe she leaves New York earlier.'' When the liner finally arrived in Hamilton, there was a slight shower, but the skies were blue and the wind was calm.

Passenger Mike Weber, from New York City, said that he had felt well throughout the journey, but the poor weather had gotten the better of some passengers.

He added: "It was a great journey for me. A lot of people did not feel well yesterday when the bad weather hit, but I usually don't suffer from sea sickness, so I was fine. The main problems were the winds and rough seas. It was pretty bad.'' Passenger Fred Anderson, from Connecticut, said he was not disappointed by the delay as he had enjoyed the cruise.

He said: "The journey was fine, a little bumpy here and there, but not too bad.

"The poor weather only lasted a few hours. We had a good time.'' One passenger, who did not wish to be named, said it was quite rough in parts and he was glad to have docked.

The poor weather may have been the tail end of Hurricane Gordon, which is moving north-easterly across the North Atlantic.
