Cruise ship in . . . minus passengers
Norwegian Cruise Line's Leeward will make a one-day stop in Bermuda on its way from Italy to Miami.
The ship, which can accommodate some 1,000 passengers, underwent a six-month refit in La Spezia.
Capt. John Moore of Meyer Agencies Ltd. said the crew will take on stores and fuel.
Meyer Agencies also reported that the Horizon , Dreamward , and Meridian made their regular calls this week.
The Horizon arrived on Monday from New York with 1,360 passengers.
She shifted to St. George's yesterday morning and was due to leave Bermuda today.
The Dreamward also arrived on Monday from New York. She brought 1,272 passengers to Bermuda.
She shifted from Penno's Wharf in St. George's to Hamilton on Tuesday and was due to leave this afternoon.
The Meridian arrived at King's Wharf in Dockyard from Baltimore on Tuesday with 934 passengers.
She will also leave this afternoon.
Meyer also said the MV Regent Star was scheduled to visit on Sunday.
In other cruise ship news, John S. Darrell reported that both the Song of America and the Royal Majesty arrived on schedule with 1,394 and 795 passengers, respectively.
The agency also reported visits by two US navy ships.
A crew aboard the US Navy's perry class frigate the USS Halyvurton arrived in Dockyard yesterday for fuel and provisions. It was scheduled to leave today for Scotland.
Crew aboard the USS Grasp arrived at the Flagship berth in Dockyard for rest and relaxation. They were scheduled to leave on Saturday morning.
John S. Darrell also expect the perry class frigate USS Flatley to arrive at the Flagship berth next Tuesday morning for fuel. It is scheduled to leave that same day.
In container ship news, Meyer said the MV Trones arrived, from Nova Scotia, on Sunday morning at Penno's Wharf to discharge gravel. It left for St. John, New Brunswick the next day.
Also the Bermuda Islander arrived from Salem, New Jersey on Monday with 60 containers, including six refrigerated containers.
Container Ship Management reported that the Oleander arrived on Sunday with 127 dry containers, 39 refrigerated containers, and several bundles of steel.
The ship left for Port Elizabeth, New Jersey on Tuesday.
Harnett and Richardson reported that the paper ship Abitibi Claiborne was scheduled to arrive at the Number Seven dock in Hamilton today.
The 400-foot, multi-purpose twin-deck carrier will discharge 955 newsprint rolls from Botwood, Newfoundland, before departing for San Juan, Puerto Rico.
