C&W vacates Hamilton office
wrapped up by the end of the month.
Cable & Wireless has sold its Church Street building and will vacate its offices there by the end of July and move to the Devonshire Teleport.
The sale is part of an ongoing global effort by the company to get out of the property business and 0.15 acres of land owned by the firm at Cable Bay in Tucker's Town recently went on the market for $1.1 million.
Another lot on the market is at Barry Road in St. George's. The firm has already sold property it owns on Cable Hill in Devonshire where it had a number of apartments it built to specifically house expatriate workers.
The Church Street building was sold for approximately $3 million and funds raised from the sale of the properties will be pumped back into improving the services C&W offers.
Meanwhile company spokesman John Instone yesterday reported that the firm was not cutting its ties with Hamilton completely as it will open a new Customer Service Centre on July 12.
The centre will take over the site formerly inhabited by the old F.C. Footwear on the corner of Church and Burnaby Streets.
It will offer the services previously offered in the Church Street facility which include the sale of calling cards, account settlement, applications for service, telefax, telex and telegram service.
A number of phone booths will be available for customers to place international calls and a conference room will be on hand for business meetings.
In the near future the centre will offer other services including Internet access.
