DOCKSIDERS Cruise passenger arrival figures took a slight dip this week as US children returned to school.
Meyer Agencies Ltd. spokesman Stephen Paynter reported the arrival of the Norwegian Crown and the Zenith on Monday and the Norwegian Majesty and the Horizon on Tuesday.
The Norwegian Crown berthed at Penno's Wharf with 926 passengers and shifted to Hamilton on Tuesday. It is scheduled to return to New York today.
The Zenith berthed in Hamilton with 1,383 passengers and shifted to St.
George's yesterday morning. It is also due to leave for New York today.
The Norwegian Majesty arrived from Boston and berthed in St. George's with 1,093 passengers. It is due to depart tomorrow.
And the Horizon went to King's Wharf with 1,151 passengers. It was due to switch to Hamilton today and leave for New York tomorrow as well.
"The passenger counts reflect the end of the summer season and the fact that children are back in school,'' noted Mr. Paynter.
John S. Darrell spokesman Don MacPherson reported the arrival of the QE2 at King's Wharf last Sunday with 1,696 passengers. The ship stayed one night before returning to New York the following day.
He added that the Song of America arrived on Tuesday with 1,460 passengers on board and berthed in St. George's. The ship switched to Hamilton yesterday and is due to leave tomorrow.
Elsewhere the Somers Isles arrived on Tuesday morning from Florida with 82 containers and 9 refrigerated containers, reported Mr. Paynter.
It also off loaded three pleasure boats and 29 bundles of lumber and is due to leave today.
The Bermuda Islander , which suffered engine trouble on its way to the US last week, was replaced this week by the charter vessel Swallow .
The Swallow arrived from Salem, New Jersey on Tuesday with a total of 98 containers including six 40-foot-containers and 12 refers. It departed later that day and immediately went off charter.
Meanwhile the Bermuda Islander , which was repaired offshore and underway to the US by 11 p.m. on Tuesday, is set to be back on schedule next week.
And Container Ship Management spokeswoman Glennis Dickenson said the Oleander arrived on Sunday in Hamilton with 39 refers, 118 dry containers, ten cars, two trailers and two flat beds with steel sheets and pilings.
These were off loaded and the ship left on Monday. It will be replaced on its next three voyages by a charter vessel as it is now going into dry dock for annual work.
The Apollogracht will replace it for the next three weeks.
BERMUDA BERTH -- The Song of America arrived in St. George's on Tuesday and yesterday travelled to Hamilton where it berthed at Number One Dock.
