The big news of the day was the fall by 50 cents per share in Argus insurance, which closed at $10, with a volume of 1,000.

BF&M nine percent convertible stock dropped 25 cents to $10.75. Other companies which traded did not change in value.

Bank of Bermuda stock closed at $31.50, with a volume of 3,054, while its eight percent preference stock closed at $11, with a volume of 1,000. Bank of Butterfield shares traded for $17, with a volume of 3,600.

Other trades were -- Bermuda Bakery, which closed at $12, with a volume of 935; Bermuda Press (Holdings), $7, 5,106; and Bermuda Electric Light Co., $15, 120.

In total, shares and bonds worth $230,278 were traded.
