The Index was paced by Bank of Bermuda, which gained 12.5 cents to close at $19.625 on volume of 5,126 shares.

Kentucky Fried Chicken -- which has seen its share price decline heavily in recent months -- gained $3.50 on volume of 100 shares to close at $30.50.

In other trading, Belco closed up 25 cents to $20.50 on volume of 180, BF&M closed down 12.5 cents to $6.75 on volume of 3,176 and BF&M 9% preferred closed unchanged at $9.50 on volume of 3,176.

Share volume for the day was 20,059 with a share value of $261,501.
