Global Crossing gets Mexico licence

received a licence from the Mexican Federal Commission of Telecommunications (Cofetel) to operate in Mexico.

The new fibre-optic cable link can carry approximately 500,000 simultaneous phone calls over a single fibre.

This fibre-optic ring will transmit high-speed voice, data and multimedia, and has a capacity of 320 gigabites per second over a single fibre-optic pair.

Mexican Crossing is 3,500 kilometres of terrestrial optic-fibre, linking Mexico's major urban centres, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mazatlan through the Global Crossing Network to the major cities of the world.

The high capacity ring allows Global Crossing to provide multiple new services, and enables its customers to benefit from faster Internet access and shorter downloads.

Mexican Crossing is being hailed as the most advanced and most secure fibre optic ring installed in Mexico.
