Fire Marine & Inland Insurance Company $19.7 million to settle future obligations under disputed reinsurance treaties.
GTE last year separately paid $25.2 million to settle past obligations under the treaties.
The latest payment is for outstanding losses.
Mr. Fred Finley, president of GTE Reinsurance, said the payment constituted a final payment to Fire Marine & Inland Insurance Company.
"The long protracted litigation that began in 1985 is nicely finished,'' Mr.
Finley said yesterday.
Philadelphia-based Mutual Marine was placed in rehabilition by the State of Pennsylvannia in the 1980s.
Bermuda-registered Chesapeake Insurance Company recently agreed to pay $12 million to the company's rehabilitator.
