Insurace seminars set
beginners are two upcoming events being staged by the Bermuda Insurance Institute.
The BII is currently accepting registrations for its Induction Programme -- IIC13.
The programme, which is being held at the Princess Hotel consists of two one and a half day modules, designed primarily for newly-appointed staff working in insurance.
BII director Mr. Ian Linnegan said the second module may be suitable for established staff who are moving into new fields of insurance work.
Among topics covered are Introduction to Insurance, Principles of Reinsurance, Risk Management and Captives.
The first module is being held over March 18 and March 25, while the second takes place on March 25 and April 1.
The Princess is also the venue for an Advanced Captive Seminar, which is being held on April 14 with the help of sponsorship by Jardine Pinehurst Management Company.
Guest speakers at the seminar will be Mr. Paul Bawcutt and Mr. Christian Dinesen.
Mr. Bawcutt is managing director of the independent international consultancy, Risk & Insurance Research Group.
He has been a consultant since the early 1970s, providing advice on a wide range of topics to major corporations, insurers, reinsurers, insurance brokers, financial institutions and governments. He has worked in over 50 countries.
Mr. Bawcutt is author of "Captive Insurance Companies'', joint author of "Practical Risk Management'' and contributing author to "A Textbook of Insurance Broking'', "European Finance Directory'' and "The Handbook of Risk Management''.
Mr. Dinesen is a senior consultant with Mr. Bawcutt's Risk & Insurance Research Group.
He has been with RIRG for more than two years, prior to which he was Manager-Insurance of Texaco's European captive, Heddington Insurance (UK). He began his career as a reinsurance broker in the London market.
The seminar will cover "Advanced Captive & Management Issues'' and "International Captive Opportunities for Bermuda''.
