Over three inches of rain has already been recorded this month following a relatively dry summer, but the head of the Bermuda Weather Service, Roger Williams said there was nothing unusual about all the precipitation.

Mr. Williams had recently been studying an old report written by Bill Macky in 1947 -- who used to run the Weather Service before the arrival of the US Air Force -- and shared some of those observations.

The wettest month ever recorded in Bermuda was August 1902, when a total of 21.33 inches of rain fell.

According to US Navy records from 1949, the wettest month was October 1967 when 14.55 inches fell. The wettest August was in 1997 when 12.23 inches fell and the wettest September since 1949 was in 1983 when 14.55 inches fell.

As for the wettest days on record, in June 1996, a total of 7.77 inches of rain fell.

The wettest day recorded prior to 1949 was on April 20, 1902 when 11.38 inches of rain fell.

This year to date, we have had 45.83 inches compared to an average of 37.14 inches.

The total rainfall for last month was 9.09 inches compared to an average of 5.17 inches.
