Editor and publisher, Mr. Kevin Stevenson, described the former Royal Gazette reporter as "one of the premier Bermudian writers'' and said that she would bolster the writing teams for the company's publications.

Ms Jones, who along with her English husband, Mr. Paul Shapiro, just returned to Toronto after extensive travels. She has also worked for The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun and Broadcast News Ltd. as a writer, reporter and broadcaster.

"I'm very much looking forward to returning to Bermuda, after spending ten years living out of the Island,'' she said this week from her Toronto home.

Mr. Stevenson said that he was very excited to have the Bermudian journalist return. He said: "She astutely went overseas to get experience in the industry and now wants to come back.

"She will oversee the day to day operations of the Bermudian Magazine and help us with our other publications.'' Those other publications include tourist-oriented literature, such as This Week in Bermuda and Bermuda Cruise Magazine and a growing list of special event publications.

"It's niche publishing, significant and specialised,'' Mr. Stevenson said.

"We are doing special publications on specific sporting events and a magazine for the International Flower Show. Also a publication for the Bank of Bermuda's new building. We are working on a 270-page art book for the Masterworks Foundation and of course, our business directory. We are also putting together a mutual fund investment guide.'' And it has been the success of the Bermudian Publishing Company that has caused the need for the hiring. There is now a paid circulation of 7,500 -- many of which are overseas subscriptions.

Mr. Stevenson conceded: "We needed to bring in some people. Our resources have been stretched, particularly over the last year. We want to pay more attention to the magazine.'' Ms Jones is aware of the demanding job ahead of her. "We'll be developing the magazine itself and improving those things that people really like about the magazine.'' The company is busy working right now on the 100-page April edition, a huge undertaking, necessitated by the substantial advertising. "We haven't seen this kind of support from advertisers in three years. That issue will include our Focus on Business section. And with the additional 3,000 copies we would normally print for a Focus on Business section, it would bring our circulation up to over 10,000.'' SOON TO BE BACK AT WORK -- Ms Rosemary Jones will take over on May 1 as the managing editor of the Bermudian Publishing Company. She has recently been on extensive travels.
