Staples preferred gained 12.5 cents to close at $9.375 on volume of 2,000.

Argus closed down 25 cents at $10.50 on volume of 1,346 while Bermuda Commercial Bank closed down 12.5 cents at $4.875 on volume of 466.

The exchange index rose 4.11 points or .41 percent to close at 1,002.16.

Share volume was 7,096 with a value of $76,233.75.
