Millennium sells Logic to BTC

Communications Ltd., to the Bermuda Telephone Co. Ltd. (BTC). The next move for Millennium will be to deploy the money it acquired through the deal.

The companies did not disclose the purchase price for the deal, announced last week. Both local companies are listed on the Bermuda Stock Exchange. BTC provides local telephone service on the Island. Logic provides computer systems integration, data management and Internet services.

Millennium chairman William Midon says the company will try to develop electronic commerce in Bermuda. "There are growing opportunities in the area of electronic commerce,'' he said. "We hope to develop electronic commerce and try to leverage Bermuda's offshore position.'' The company also sees growth coming from its remain operations in the Bahamas -- Digital Systems (Bahamas) Ltd. and Internet (Bahamas) Ltd. Both operations are self sustaining and are in the same business as Logic Communications. Mr.

Midon said the companies, which employ about 20 staff, are prospering along with the booming Bahamian economy. "The companies are self-sustaining operations,'' he said. "The Bahamas could be a regional springboard into the Caribbean and Latin America.'' Peter Durhager, who will remain president of Logic, will also remain as president and chief executive officer of Millennium. He said Millennium, with himself as the bridge, will seek to develop its relationship with BTC and look for "joint initiatives'' both companies can develop.

Logic will keep its operational autonomy from BTC by having a separate board of directors. BTC spokeswoman Karla Lacey-Minors said the telephone company will now be able to offer a "one-stop communications shop'' in Bermuda.

"As we continue to enrich our infrastructure and basic services, Logic will use them to increase its offerings of value-added services, which now include global Internet access, low-cost international faxing, international frame relay service and solutions-based systems integration,'' she said in a statement.

Millennium, when it was known as BSL Holdings Ltd., acquired Digital Systems (Bahamas) Ltd. in 1994. When that purchase was announced company founders Nicholas Weare and Mr. Midon also said it was part of the company's plan to expand in the region.
